Preparing for the Year Ahead.

As Kabojja International School prepares to welcome the 2026/2027 Academic Year, members of the School’s Leadership and Management Team came together for a two day Management Retreat held on 6th and 7th August 2026.

The retreat provided an important opportunity to pause, reflect on the 2025/2026 Academic Year, celebrate key milestones and successes, examine lessons learnt and identify areas for improvement as we look ahead to another year of growth and transformation at KIS.

A key focus of the retreat was strengthening our collective capacity as leaders and ensuring that our strategic priorities translate into purposeful, effective action across the School.

We were privileged to welcome two distinguished external senior consultants who brought valuable expertise, practical insights and diverse leadership perspectives to the conversations:

• Professor Waswa Balunywa - Ugandan economist, financier, philanthropist and academic; founder of the Waswa Balunywa Foundation, under which he established the Balunywa Leadership Academy and AKB Memorial Hospital in Iganga District.

• Ms. Lilian Bagambe - a seasoned professional with extensive experience across Audit, Finance, Human Resources and Consulting, currently serving as General Manager at House of Concrete East Africa and as a Member of the Board of Trustees at Pesapal.

Their sessions stimulated rich and thought provoking discussions around leadership, governance, team dynamics, communication, psychological safety, organisational performance and strategic and operational planning.

Beyond theory, the conversations were grounded in practical examples and recommended practices, encouraging members of the leadership team to reflect critically on how we lead, communicate, collaborate, make decisions and ultimately create the conditions for our teams and learners to thrive.

The retreat also reinforced an important principle: strong institutions are built by people who are aligned around a shared purpose, accountable for their responsibilities, open to learning, and committed to continuous improvement.

As we begin the 2026/2027 Academic Year, the KIS Leadership and Management Team is carrying forward renewed clarity, shared responsibility and a stronger sense of collective purpose.

We look forward to translating the insights and commitments from the retreat into meaningful action.
