KIS Young Scientists in Action

At Kabojja International School, learning begins with curiosity and this week, our Year 1 scientists turned their classroom into a living laboratory to explore one of nature's most fundamental processes: how plants drink.

Through a hands-on experiment, our young learners investigated why water is essential for growth and observed, first-hand how it travels from the roots, up through the stem, to nourish leaves and flowers. Using simple materials and guided observation, pupils tracked the journey of water in real time watching colour move through celery stalks and flower petals and discussing what they saw with genuine wonder.

Beyond the science itself, this experiment nurtured skills that matter well beyond the classroom: careful observation, patience, prediction and the confidence to ask "why?" and "how?" These early encounters with the scientific method lay the foundation for a lifelong love of inquiry based learning.

The best learning happens when children are given the space to explore, question and discover for themselves. Our Year 1 pupils did exactly that.
