Celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival at KIS

This week, our Early Years and IB Kindergarten community came together to celebrate the Mooncake Festival (中秋节, Zhōngqiū Jié). One of East and Southeast Asia's most cherished traditions, centred on the full moon, family reunion and gratitude.

Falling this year on Friday, 25 September, the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, the festival gave our youngest learners a joyful window into a culture rich with meaning and symbolism. Children explored the story of Chang'e, the legendary figure associated with the moon, admired lantern displays and took part in the time-honored custom of sharing mooncakes. Round pastries whose shape beautifully echoes the festival's message of wholeness, unity and togetherness.

A special highlight was having young Chen help bring these traditions to life for his classmates, offering a personal and heartfelt connection to the celebration.

At Kabojja International School, moments like these reflect what we value most: nurturing global citizens who understand, respect and celebrate the diversity of cultures represented within our own community. Each festival we mark is an opportunity for our children to learn empathy, curiosity and appreciation for traditions beyond their own.
