Art Beyond the Classroom as KIS Visits Tadooba Art Gallery

On Monday, 14th September 2026, seventeen of our Year 12 and Year 13 Art & Design students traded the classroom for the curated walls of Tadooba Art Gallery in Mukono, for an afternoon of exhibition viewing, guided discussion and hands on creative workshops.

Led by Mr. Ssebugya Stephen and Ms. Sharon Akello, our students were warmly hosted by the Tadooba team and welcomed into a space defined by its own guiding philosophy: "invent, articulate, inspire". This philosophy resonates with our own approach to art education at Kabojja International School.

The excursion was designed with clear learning objectives, giving students the opportunity to:

• Deepen their contextual understanding of how professional artists present work in curated spaces

• Strengthen visual analysis skills by examining composition, media and technique up close Explore recurring themes and narratives to inform their own coursework and personal investigations

• Gather primary research through sketches, photographs and notes for ongoing portfolio development

• Build curatorial awareness, understanding how lighting, layout, and sequencing shape meaning

• Gain insight into professional pathways in fine art, design, and curation

• Reflect critically, linking the gallery experience to their assessment objectives and final coursework

Experiences like this bring our Cambridge International Art & Design curriculum to life in ways a classroom alone cannot. Engaging directly with practising artists and real curatorial choices sharpens the analytical and creative instincts our students will carry into their final coursework and beyond.
